Wallace Stevens Program
An Alternative Admission Program for Non-Traditional Students
|
About the Program: “The Wallace Stevens Program, named for our illustrious poet-alumnus, is a bold initiative rooted in New York Law School’s tradition of innovation and its historic commitment to opening the doors of the legal profession to a diverse population of students. The Law School seeks to admit a small group of successful professionals with earned graduate or postgraduate degrees who will—through the diversity of their academic and life experiences, and their strong academic track record in other postsecondary settings—make a significant contribution to the intellectual life of the Law School.
In response to the growing recognition that legal education has been overly dependent on the LSAT as the primary measure of aptitude for law studies, New York Law School has developed this program to permit admission into its part-time Evening Division of a small group of applicants who have not yet taken the LSAT. Under the Wallace Stevens application option, interested applicants with strong undergraduate grades, a graduate degree, and significant work experience will be considered for admission with the requirement that they take the LSAT after admission, but before the end of their first year at New York Law School.
Just as they did a century ago, New York Law School’s mission and location make it an ideal educational option for accomplished professionals who are seeking to expand.”
Selection Criteria: “Applications for the Wallace Stevens Program are reviewed by the Admissions Committee weighing the candidate’s academic history and work experience. The committee regards admission to this program as highly selective. Therefore, a successful candidate must have superior grades in both the undergraduate and graduate degree programs and a significant and accomplished professional life.
Wallace Stevens Program candidates will be considered for admission only as part-time students. Because work experience is an important component of the selection process, we anticipate that the candidate will continue working while a law student. It is possible to switch to full-time status after the first year.”
“The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) is not required to be considered for admission. If admitted, however, the LSAT must be taken during your first year at the Law School.”
Application Fee: $60.00.
Application Deadline: Applications should be submitted between September 1 and April 1.
